Highlanders Extend Win Streak to Four Against Rosemont

LANGHORNE, PA- Playing their second straight CSAC doubleheader of the week the Highlanders swept the visiting Rosemont Ravens, 2-1, 8-0, to improve to 11-9 on the year.

The first game was a classic pitcher's duel as Krista Earl and Rosemont's starter Autumn Sharkey each mowed through the opposition for the first five innings. The Ravens notched the first run of the afternoon, scoring on an error, but the Highlanders instantly bounced back in the bottom half. Sony MacBain started the rally with a single to left field, before advancing to second on a passed ball and stealing third. Junior stalwart Haley Tinney singled up the middle to plate MacBain and tie the game for the Highlanders. Meagan Maratita grounded to third base, forcing the Ravens into an error and setting the table for Katelynn Reiss, who smacked a sacrifice fly to left field giving Cairn their first lead of the day. With Krista Earl in top form once again, one run was all that was needed, as despite some last inning drama, the Highlanders defense buckled down and Cairn tallied their 10th win of the season. Sony MacBain went 2-3 atop the lineup and Earl finished with another 13 strikeouts to lead the Highlanders.

Riding high after their third straight win, the Highlanders dominated game two as well. Meagan Maratita threw a gem, giving up only one hit, and the offense notched eight runs to end the game early. MacBain, Tinney, and Maratita each finished with a hit and two runs, while Reiss and Earl each tallied two hits of their own.

The Highlanders have used a four game winning streak to edge above the .500 mark once more. Cairn will play two more CSAC games against Neumann University this afternoon, beginning at 3:00 PM.
