SCRANTON, PA- In their first games back after a week off, the Highlanders struggled against Marywood University, dropping a pair of games 1-9 and 3-9.
Â
The Highlanders struggled to solve Marywood pitcher Kirstie Alvarez, notching their first run in the fourth inning when Haley Tinney reached on an error, before being singled home by
Katelynn Reiss. Krista Earl followed with a single of her own, but the Highlanders rally was thwarted by when Angela Paskitti grounded out. The Highlanders fell in game one, but their bats woke up in the second. McKenna Schindele started the game by lacing a double down the left field line, before Shay Walker bunted Schindele home. The Highlanders kept the game close in the top of the fourth when Meagan Maratita doubled to center field, and
Katelynn Reiss notched another RBI, singling in the Highlanders third basemen. Despite their increased offensive effectiveness, the Highlanders fell in game two as well.
Â
Schindele, Tinney and Reiss each finished with two hits in the second game, while Maratita and Paskitti each finished with one hit of their own.
Â
The Highlanders play three games next week to conclude their season, beginning with an away doubleheader vs. Centenary University and finishing with home doubleheaders against Cedar Crest College and Gwynedd Mercy University.
