IMMACULATA, PA- The Highlanders traveled Immaculata, PA for their first conference matchup of the season.
In the first contest, the Highlanders struggled in the first two innings as Immaculata plated six runs to take the lead. Cairn starter Reaven East settled in, blanking the Mighty Macs in the bottom of the third to keep the Highlanders hopes alive. Leading off in the top of the 4
th, Katelyn Reiss (whose incredible streak of 115 at bats without a strikeout ended earlier in the game) crushed her first homerun of the season over the left field fence to jolt the Highlanders offense alive. Unfortunately, a grand slam by the Mighty Macs stretched the Highlanders deficit and Cairn dropped the afternoon's first game, 1-10. In game 2, Cairn struggled with Immaculata starter Emma Bischoff, managing only one hit when Haley Tinney singled up the middle in the top of the fourth inning. The Highlanders fell to 6-6 with the loss, and will look to bounce back against the College of Saint Elizabeth in their home opener this afternoon.
