IMMACULATA, PA- In front of packed away crowd at Alumnae Hall, the Highlanders sought to avenge this season's earlier loss to the Mighty Macs in tonight's game. After a great first half, Cairn appeared to be in position to do so, however Immaculata stormed back in the second half, winning 89-81.
Â
The Highlanders started tonight's contest slowly, until Malachi Hall and the Highlanders very own microwave,
Josh Decker, paired up to hit back-to-back threes and jolt the Highlanders to life. The first half was a slugfest the entire 20 minutes, as Cairn, recognizing their size advantage, pounded the ball down low to
Jordan Koczman and Antoine Nunnally. The Highlander bigs played an excellent half, each finishing in double figures and kicking out to open shooters when double teams came, and Cairn entered the break leading 44-41.
Â
In front of their home crowd, the Mighty Macs came storming back in the second half as their stars Jordan Ambrose and Mike Piekarski combined for 33 second half points to give Immaculata a huge boost. The Highlanders resisted the Mighty Mac run to the best of their abilities but were ultimately unable to summon enough firepower to overcome Immaculata's 48 point second half.
Â
Jordan Koczman had another excellent game, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Koczman has had a fantastic two week stretch, as the junior is averaging 21.75 points over this stretch. Malachi Hall contributed across the board yet again with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Hall's second triple-double of the season placed our Highlander star in rarefied air as one of only 5 players in the NCAA to tally 2 triple-doubles on the season.
Â
The Highlanders will host Clarks Summit this Saturday at 8:00 PM for the finale of a packed day at the Mason Activity Center.
