LANGHORNE, PA- After three straight wins last week, the Highlanders attempted to build on their success against the visiting Patriots of Valley Forge University. Unfortunately, an off shooting night and an incredible individual effort from the Patriots Jhanel Brown combined to be too much for the Highlanders to overcome.
Â
With the gameplay set at a blistering pace, the Highlanders knew they would need to put up a high number each quarter to keep up with the Patriots. Despite 10 early points from Brown,
Payton Emerick and
Charlotte Camp each finished acrobatic shots around the basket to keep the score level in the games early stages. While the Highlanders held the rest of the Valley Forge offense down, Brown's relentless effort around the rim gave the Patriots a 39-25 lead at the half. Emerick tallied 11 points and 6 rebounds in the first half to lead the Cairn offense.
Â
Coach
Walt Zamroz and the Highlanders adjusted in the second half, doubling Brown at every touch and limiting the Patriots powerful center. Receiving big defensive contributions from
Elena Young and Tori Stum, Cairn attempted to climb out of their first half hole, running their effective motion offense and garnering countless open shots. However, the shots simply were not dropping tonight and the Highlanders fell by a final score of 73-55.
Payton Emerick finished with her sixth double-double of the season and second straight with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Aigner Bookard tallied 14 points and 5 rebounds and Tori Stum chipped in with 8 points and 9 rebounds as well.

With only four games remaining, the Highlanders will travel to Immaculata University to take on the Mighty Macs at 6:00 PM Wednesday night.
