Highlanders Tame Bulldogs in CSAC-CUNYAC Challenge

LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn Highlanders took a short break from the ultra-competitive CSAC conference schedule to compete alongside their CSAC combatants as they took on Brooklyn College as part of the CSAC-CUNY challenge.  All teams in the CSAC and the CUNY did battle this Saturday, and the conference that took home the most victories would be named the champions of the CSAC-CUNY challenge. The Highlanders did their part, notching a victory for themselves, and for the CSAC by a final score of 85-73.

The highlanders were firmly in control of the tempo in the first half, establishing dominance on the lower block with their forwards.  Jordan Koczman was most impressive, contributing 12 points, all in the paint, to tie for the first half high.  While the Highlanders established their post presence, their outside attack was equally as impressive, as Josh Decker drilled four 3's to notch 12 points going into halftime.  The Highlanders had a comfortable 42-36 lead heading into the break.

The full court press from the Bulldogs gave the Highlanders some issues in the second half, as the Bulldogs used an 11-0 run to start the half to take the lead with 15:00 left to play. However, that would be the last time Brooklyn College would hold the lead, as Malachi Hall quickly splashed a three pointer from the top of the key to regain the lead, a lead the Highlanders would not give up the rest of the game.

Cairn relied on a balanced scoring attack with many contributors. Josh Decker lead the way for the Highlanders with 19 points off of 6-13 from beyond the arc.  Jordan Koczman was close behind with 18 on 8-18 shooting.  Seth Bruner kept up his hot shooting dropping 16 points in 32 minutes on the floor.  Malachi Hall played the role of facilitator, scoring 15 points to go along with 11 assists to garner the double double, and Antoine Nunnally kept up his rapid progression, as the freshmen tallied 13 points on top of his 11 rebounds.

The Highlanders will be back in action Monday night when they take on the Patriots of Valley Forge inside the Mason Activity Center. Tip-off scheduled for 8:00 PM.
