DALLAS, PA- After a successful weekend at the Elmira College Invitational, the Highlanders lost a tightly-contested match to the Misericordia University Cougars, 21-25,
25-18, 21-25, and 21-25.
Â
The Highlanders started off hot in the first set, leading 12-11 until the Cougars mounted a 7-1 run to take control of the set 18-13. After dropping the first set, the Highlanders bounced back in the second, using a stifling block to frustrate the Cougar attackers- Anton Deleon and
Micah Godshall combined for two blocks on back-to-back plays to jump the Highlanders to a 5-1 lead. Cairn led comfortably the entire set, completing their victory when Aaron Delbury's heat-seeking smash found nothing but the floor. In the third and fourth sets, Cairn came close, but ultimately dropped both sets 25-21, and the match to a final score of 1-3.
Â
Micah Godshall led with 10 kills,
Ryan Ludvik dished out 27 assists, while also chipping in 6 kills and 6 digs, and newcomers Aaron Delbury (9 kills, 7 digs) and Anton Deleon (7 blocks) stepped up their play as well.
Â
The Highlanders will travel to Ramapo College on Friday to open up CVC play at 7:00 PM.
