LANGHORNE, PA- In their second home game of the new season, the Highlanders dropped a spirited contest to the Immaculata University Mighty Macs, 57-70.
Â
Immaculata ramped up the pressure from the start, pressing the Highlanders and forcing Cairn into a number of turnovers over the first ten minutes of play. Cairn chipped away at the deficit in the second quarter, coming within 8 points after a layup from
Charlotte Camp. Basketball, as always, is a game of runs and the Mighty Macs bounced back, leading by as many as 17 points midway through the third quarter.  Three free throws from
Dakota Hitchner, and a layup from each of the Stum sisters jump started the Highlanders run heading into the fourth quarter. From the end of the third quarter through the first five minutes of the fourth, the Highlanders mounted a 14-2 run to get within three points. Unfortunately, Immaculata pulled away down the stretch, knocking down 11-12 free throws in the fourth to take the lead and eventually the game.
Â
Payton Emerick led the Highlanders with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals,
Kendra Stum finished in double figures for the second time this season, and
Dakota Hitchner notched a season-high 6 assists.
Â
The Highlanders will host Penn State-Abington Tuesday night at 6:00 PM.
