LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders women's basketball team hosted Bryn Mawr College Saturday afternoon, defeating the Owls 76-63 to start the season on a high note.
Cairn jumped out to a 13-7 lead thanks to a flurry of jumpers, as
Kendra Stum knocked down three straight and
Jenna Krage tallied her first three pointer of the season. Stum tallied 8 points in the first quarter and
Dakota Hitchner chipped in with a layup and two free throws to put the Highlanders ahead 20-19 at the end of the first quarter.
Aigner Bookard slashed to the rim for two straight buckets to start the second quarter, however, the Owls found their rhythm from beyond the arc to take a 33-28 lead. The Highlanders mounted a quick 7-0 run to retake the lead when Hitchner raced down the court for a fastbreak layup, and
Melissa Good knocked in 5 straight points.
Cairn started the second half on a tear, notching the first 7 points to take a 43-36 lead. After such a scintillating start to the quarter, the Highlanders finished the third with a 13-4 run to take full control of the afternoon's affairs. Staked to a commanding lead, the Highlanders coasted through the fourth quarter and closed out their first victory of the 2018-19 season by a final score of 76-63.
Stum and Bookard filled it up for the Highlanders with 17 and 16 points to lead the team, while Krage chipped in with a perfect 4-4 performance from beyond the arc, and Hitchner tallied 12 points in just 21 minutes.
The Highlanders will travel to Penn State Harrisburg to take on the Nittany Lions at 6:00 PM Wednesday night.
