LANGHORNE, PA- Seeking a win against one of the Colonial States Athletic Conference's finest teams, the Highlanders battled back in the second half, but were ultimately unable to overcome their first half shooting struggles, dropping the contest 52-70.
Â
Taken aback by the ferocity of the Rosemont defense, as well as the Ravens speed and athleticism, the Highlanders struggled to find good looks at the basket over the opening twenty minutes. Paired with the Ravens slashing attack, the Highlanders fell into a 16-45 hole after the first half drew to a close. Staked to such a substantial deficit, credit the Highlanders for not wilting under the circumstances, as the young Highlanders adjusted to the speed of play and showed their true colors in the second half. Led by
Payton Emerick's hard-nosed play, the Highlanders drew closer to the Ravens in the third quarter, before putting all the pieces together and firmly defeating the Ravens 19-10 in the fourth.
Â
The Highlanders brightest light of the night can easily be shined on
Payton Emerick. The junior scored 11 points, dished 4 assists, and in tallying her 6
th double-digit rebound game of the season, finished with 18 rebounds to tie for 4
th all-time on the Cairn University single game rebounding charts. The 5'7" multi-sport star has shown a truly impressive nose for the ball all season, and is currently averaging 8.8 rebounds per game to lead the Highlanders.
Â
Cairn will continue their home stand this weekend when Keystone College comes to town for a 1:00 PM game.
