LANGHORNE, PA- After a tough loss to Rosemont College earlier this week, the Highlanders bounced back in stellar fashion with a nearly wire-to-wire win against Keystone College, 66-56.
Â
The Highlanders started off hot and stayed hot against the visiting Giants this afternoon, tallying 10 points in the first five minutes of play as
Payton Emerick and
Aigner Bookard slashed to the rim for 4 points each. Keystone battled back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 4 points, but freshman Melissa Good provided a huge boost off the bench with a confident stroke on a three-pointer and an assist to Tori Stum, stretching the lead back to 8 points. Cairn led 35-28 at the half, controlling the play with a swarming zone defense, and shooting 51.6% from the floor to hold the comfortable 8 point lead.
Payton Emerick tallied 8 first half points and 4 rebounds to lead the Highlanders efforts.
Â
Cairn skated through the second half as well, keeping a firm grasp on the game with excellent ball control, thanks in large part to the healthy return of leader
Kendra Stum. Despite conceding a plethora of offensive rebounds to Keystone forward Maddy Moro, the Highlanders made key play after key play down the stretch, leading by 13 points at the end of the third quarter, and eventually winning 66-56.
Payton Emerick led the Highlanders with 13 points and 7 rebounds, showing an aggressive streak on offense that will be a huge bonus for Cairn moving forward. Additionally, freshman guard Jenna Krage, who usually does her damage behind the arc, showed a more well-rounded game this afternoon shooting 5-7 to tie her career-high of 12 points.
Kendra Stum and
Aigner Bookard each did a little bit of everything as well, tallying 4 steals apiece to go along with 19 points combined.

The Highlanders hit the road for their games this upcoming week, traveling to face Cabrini University 1/24 and Gwynedd Mercy 1/26.
