Men's Soccer Drops Tough Road Contest to Goucher

TOWSON, MD - The Cairn men's soccer team took to the pitch down in Baltimore tonight for a road contest with Goucher College. The Gophers came out victorious defeating The Highlanders 2-0.

Cairn was looking to avenge a heart-breaking 2-1 loss last season to the Goucher at home. However, it was the Gophers who would take the game finding themselves in the win column for the first time this season.  The opening minutes of play would see both teams fighting back and forth trying to get ahead of their opponents.  In an early defensive battle, it would be Goucher who was able to get the first shot off in the game, with a header that went wide of the cage in the 14th minute of play.  Three minutes later Goucher was able to fire off another shot, and Cairn keeper Colin Baker provided his team with the save, but was unable to secure the rebound which ended up on the foot of a Gopher attacker for a 1-0 lead.

Cairn had a hard time figuring out the tough Goucher defense as their first shot came in the 38th minute of play when Noah Akers would fire a shot just wide of the cage.  Cairn would head into the break down 1-0.

In the second half of action, the Highlanders picked up the intensity and were able to get shots from Brendan Keller and Joey Weaver, but they were not able to find the back of the net.  The Gophers would seal the deal with a second goal late in the half and ensure the victory for the home team.

Goucher led the game in shots (17) with 11 being on frame, whereas Cairn managed four shots with only one on goal.  In his second collegiate game in between the pipes, Baker would come up with nine saves in the contest.

Cairn will head back out on the road Saturday afternoon as they will travel to Lebanon Valley for a match up with The Dutchmen, game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
