LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders took on the Mighty Macs at this morning's homecoming volleyball match, and despite their best efforts and continually improved play, fell 0-3.
Playing in front of easily the largest home crowd of the season, the Highlanders showed a touch of nerves at the start, trailing by a score of 1-6 throughout the early going of the first set. After a timeout the Highlanders were able to reign it in and fight back, but eventually dropped the first set 25-9. The second set followed a similar pattern as the Mighty Macs came out strong and took control from the very start. The Highlanders would drop the second set as well by a score of 25-8. The third set showed greatly improved play from the Highlanders as the attack and defense both improved immensely. Middle
Brooke Seidel, outside hitter
Haley Sheehan, middle
Christine Garis, and outside hitter
Brie Norton all recorded blocks early on. While very competitive, the Highlanders lagged behind 8-11 midway through the set. The Mighty Macs would score 6 straight points to essentially put the match out of reach. The Highlanders did bounce back and bring the game closer, but they eventually dropped the third set 25-16, and the match 3-0.
Brie Norton and
Haley Sheehan led the Highlanders with 5 kills apiece, while Sheehan and
Kylie McCann led with 15 digs.
