LANGHORNE, PA- Cairn women's volleyball hosted the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island tonight in a non-conference volleyball match. The Highlanders swept the Dolphins 25-12, 25-21, and 25-23 in this hotly-contested matchup.
Cairn set the tone from the start with a dominating performance in the first set. Led by the consistent presence of Junior outside hitter
Haley Sheehan, the Highlanders were able to coast to a first set victory 25-12. Down but not out, the Dolphins battled back until a Lyntia Gwess kill put the Highlanders up two- a lead they would not relinquish. In the third set, the Highlanders succumbed to a 5-point run by Staten Island. However, showing incredible resilience Cairn would score 8 of the next 10 points to pull ahead and eventually win the third set and the match.
Coach
Whitney Seidel and her young team played an excellent, composed match with key contributions from virtually everyone on the roster. Lyntia Gwess and
Haley Sheehan tied for the lead with 10 kills apiece, Bri Norton chipped in 10 digs, and setter
Liz White dished out 20 assists.
The Highlanders are back in action this Thursday, 9/14, as they host Elizabethtown College at 7:00 PM.
