LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders home winning streak was broken as they lost in straight sets to the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College.
Cairn fell to 2-4 on the season as they simply could not match up to the impressive front line of the Blue Jays. The Highlanders played with confidence and poise from the start, repeatedly setting up the ever-consistent tandem of
Haley Sheehan and
Lyntia Gwess. The first set was tied at 12-apiece until Elizabethtown mounted a 5-0 run, a lead Cairn could not surpass, eventually dropping the set 25-19. The second set followed a similar pattern, with the Highlanders hanging tough, but again falling by a score of 25-17. When Gwess left the game with an injury in the third the Highlanders could not overcome the substantially taller Blue Jays, dropping the third set 25-10.
While the Highlanders did not continue their winning streak, they have a great deal to be optimistic about. The young team played their hearts out the entire night, with a positive attitude and won't quit spirit led by the fiery
Isabelle Concepcion and her 4 kills. Sheehan led the team in kills and digs for the night with 8 and 6, while setter
Liz White again added double-digit assists. Gwess also added two blocks.
The Highlanders will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Dallas, PA to take on Misericordia University and Farmingdale State University in an out-of-conference tri-match beginning at 10 AM.
