Women's Volleyball Drops Season Opening Tri-Match

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Cairn University Highlanders opened the 2017 volleyball with a pair of losses to King's College (PA) and Penn-State Abington.  Both contests came with final scores of 3-0 in favor of the opponents.

The Highlanders fell to 0-2 on the young season.

Junior outsider hitter Haley Sheehan led the attack on the afternoon for the Highlanders as she amassed 12 total kills for the afternoon.  Defensively, Sheehan also led the team in digs with 13 over both matches.  Newcomer Lyntia Gwess also chipped in with 12 total digs, nine of those coming against Penn-State Abington.  Sophmore Liz White dished out a team high 19 assists over the course of the afternoon.

In the opening match of the afternoon, it was all King's College as the Monarchs would go on to win in straight sets by scores of (25-14, 25-5, 25-16).  

In the Highlanders second match of the day against Penn-State Abington, once again Cairn found themselves behind Nittany Lions and could not come back for the victory.  The Nittany Lions would go on to win their match in straight sets (25-7, 25-15, 25-17).

The Highlanders will look to get into the win column on Wednesday night, as they will host the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College at 7:00 pm in the Mason Activity Center.
