LANGHORNE, PA – In the home opener The Highlanders looked to defend their home court against the Chargers in an intense matchup to start a four game home stretch. After a nail-biting first set, the women's volleyball team looked to put up a fight for the sets to follow. The first set ended 19-25 in favor of Lancaster Bible. The next two sets were dropped as well both ending 15-25 as the Chargers took the match 3-0.
In the first set, both teams were scratching for a lead. There was a total of seven lead changes throughout the first set. After a few back and forth points in the beginning of the match, the Chargers took a prominent lead. With Lancaster Bible winning 12-18, The Highlanders would go on a six-point streak to tie the game at 18. Junior
Haley Sheehan sparked the comeback with a dominant kill for one of her seven kills on the night. The momentum shook the MAC as students roared in hopes of a Highlander victory. With Freshman
Lyntia Gwess at the service stripe looking to put away the Chargers, a couple of errors, a kill, and four aces would finish off The Highlanders and give set one to the Lancaster Bible.
In the second set The Chargers tightened their grip on The Highlanders. The offense was supplied by Freshman

Christine Garis, and
Haley Sheehan. These three supplied the kills for the team and were spark plugs on the attack. As Cairn was persistent on sending over offensive shots but the Chargers were quick to deny any rally Cairn attempted. The second set was finished at a score of 15-25 in favor of the visiting team.
The third set The Highlanders were not without fight. Gwess and Sheehan combined for eight kills in the third set alone. The sparks of offense kept the set close as Lancaster Bible consistently attempted to pull away. For the first half of the set the battle was tight. With the Highlanders down four, Gwess brought Cairn within three nailing three consecutive kills to set the score at 9-12 LBC. As the set continued, the Chargers were able to use big runs which shut the door on a Cairn comeback finishing the match with a final score of 15-25, completing the sweep.
Consistent support was provided from Sophomore
Liz White with a team leading 11 assists. This set up multiple kills and opportunities for success throughout the set for the Highlanders. She added 8 digs on the night was a key player in the fight for the Highlanders.
Cairn will be back at it at home on Saturday Sept. 9
th at11:00 AM to face off against Gwynedd Mercy in their first CSAC matchup of the year.
