Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Goals Get the Best of Men's Soccer

BRYN ATHYN, PA - The men's soccer team traveled to Bryn Athyn College for match-up with the Lions on Friday afternoon.  Although the Highlanders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Brendan Keller would steal the ball from the opposing goalie, find a wide open Joey Weaver, who burried the shot in the back of the net for his first goal of the seaon.  It would not be enough as Bryn Athyn eventually took the lead, 2-1, and ultimately held on for 4-2 victory.

It was all Cairn in the early going of the game, as the Highlanders would fire two shots off before connecting on their third opportunity to take a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.  Junior Joey Weaver would be the beneficiary of a hustle play by Brendan Keller and beat the keeper and gave Cairn the 1-0 lead.

Bryn Athyn had a chance to tie the game after Cairn commited a foul, giving the Lions a free kick.  Freshman Collin Baker stepped and made a beautiful diving save to his left as the ball would just scoot over the wall of Highlander defenders.

Bryn Athyn would find the equalizer on another free kick, this time from 28 yards out.  The Lions would send a long ball on goal that just went over the reach of the Highlander goalie and wound up in the back of the net.  Both teams would head to half time with the score tied at 1.

In the 57th minute, the Lions would send another long ball toward the box, that made its way just under the cross bar and out of the reach of the keeper giving Bryn Athyn a 2-1 lead.

Sophmore Brett Kikendall tied the game just over a minute later on a free kick of his own that beat the defending wall and the goalie.  Just like that the score was level at 2 apiece.

In the 71st minute the Lions would take their final lead of the afternoon.  The Highlanders were unable to secure a bouncing ball inside their box, and eventually the ball settled on the foot of a Bryn Athyn attacker.  He was able to control the ball and find the back of the net, giving the host school a 3-2 lead.

The Lions would put the final nail in the coffin in the 83 minute, as David Camara was able to beat his defender, and went upper 90 from a tough angle en route to a 4-2 victory.

It's a quick turn around for the men, as they will host Wilson College tomorrow afternoon with kickoff happening at 2:30.
