Pacers Wash Away Highlanders On Senior Day

Langhorne, PA – On a cool and rainy afternoon, the Marywood Pacers traveled to Langhorne to take on the Cairn softball team in a CSAC doubleheader. The Pacers took care of the Highlanders by scoring 12 runs in each end of the double-dip. The Highlanders scored two runs in Game One, before putting three on the board in the second game.

Game One – Marywood defeats Cairn 12-2
The Pacers did all of their damage in the first two innings. Marywood scored seven times in the first inning before putting five more on the board in the second to take a 12-0 lead.

Marywood used 12 hits across the two frames to plate their runs and open up a double-digit lead. Cairn came back with a run in the second and third, but it was not enough.

In the second, Cairn used a pair of doubles to score their first run of the day. Jessica Rolo led off the frame with a double to the right center gap and after a pop up and a strike out, Alexandra Nathan went shopping in the left center gap for a two-bagger of her own to chase Rolo home.

The Highlanders put together a one-out rally in the third when three straight singles from Meagan Maratita, Katelyn Loveless, and Katelynn Reiss brought home a run. Rolo then walked to load the bases with only one away, but a groundball double play ended the threat.

After their run in the third the Highlanders trailed 12-2. Cairn was held scoreless in the fourth and fifth and could not get any closer.

After a rough first two innings, Cairn's starter Haley Tinney settled down and shut the Pacers out over the final three innings. Despite a stronger final three innings, Tinney took the loss. She tossed five innings allowing 12 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits and five walks.

In the game, Katelyn Loveless and Jessica Rolo each recorded two hits to lead the Highlanders.

Game Two – Marywood defeats Cairn 12-3
The Pacers once again jumped out to an early lead with six quick runs in the top of the first in Game Two. The Highlanders however countered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Marywood kept their foot on the gas and scored six more runs across the second, third, and fourth including a four-run third to take a 12-2 advantage. Cairn got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Katelynn Reiss, but it was not enough as Marywood earned the victory on an increasingly wet field by a 12-3 final.

While scoring two runs, the Highlanders only had four hits in the second game. Katelynn Reiss did bring home two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies.

In the circle, Meagan Maratita went five innings allowing 12 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits and 10 walks.

The Highlanders will take the field on Monday when they host Trinity Washington University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
