Game One - Keystone defeats Cairn 16-4
The first game of Saturday afternoon opened with the two starters facing the minimum in their respective frames. Cairn's starter,
Kameron Bradshaw, walked the first batter he faced but took advantage of a line drive double play to face only three batters.
In the second, the Highlanders were turned away in order for the second-straight inning by Miguel Reyes. Bradshaw was not as fortunate in the second, he allowed two runs when the first three batters reached to lead off the inning.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Highlanders got their first baserunner when
Keith LeNoue walked with one out in the third. Cairn got a runner to second with two outs, but they were unable to bring the run home.
After the Giants got out of the top of the third without a run, their offense exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the stanza. In the inning the Giants knocked five hits while taking advantage of two Cairn errors to expand their lead to 11-0.
In the top the fourth the Highlanders got on the board with RBI singles from
Daniel Morales and
Jacob Allen.
Alejandro Fernandez then followed with an RBI groundout to cut to Keystone lead to 11-3.
The Giants added some insurance in the fifth and sixth with five runs to push their lead to 16-3. Cairn scored a run in the seventh on a groundout from
Brendan Keller, but Keystone held on for the 16-4 victory.
Kameron Bradshaw took the loss allowing seven runs (two earned) on four hits over 2.1 innings.
Game Two - Keystone defeats Cairn 10-3
Keystone's starter, Tyler Widitz, controlled Game Two. The junior righty did not allow a baserunner until a one-out single by
Jacob Allen in the fifth inning. He ended up going five shutout innings, allowing just the one hit while striking out four.
While Widitz was shoving, the Keystone offense was making his effort hold up. The Giants scored two runs in the first and then added single runs in the second and third before putting six runs on the board in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead.
The Highlanders put a run up in the sixth when
Andrew Philips scampered home after a throwing error on a steal to third. Cairn then scored two runs in the seventh with RBI singles by
Keith LeNoue and Philips, but the early 10-run cushion held up and Keystone won by a 10-3 final.
Widitz earned the victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. For Cairn,
Sam Dralle took the loss after tossing 3.2 innings and allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and three walks. He struck out one.
The Highlanders will next take the field on Tuesday in a non-conference game against Clarks Summit at home. The game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
