Immaculata Cruises Past Highlanders in Twin-Bill

Langhorne, PA – The Cairn baseball team dropped a pair of games against the CSAC leading Immaculata Mighty Macs on Monday afternoon by scores of 10-5 and 10-2. The first game was a pitcher's duel early before the Mighty Macs scored nine runs between the fourth and fifth to take command. In Game Two the Mighty Macs jumped on the board early and scored three runs in the first inning before cruising to the 10-2 victory.

Game One – Immaculata defeats Cairn 10-5
The Immaculata Mighty Macs scored nine runs between the fourth and fifth innings to take control of Game One of a doubleheader in Langhorne on Monday. The Mighty Macs hammered two home runs in the fifth inning to help take a 9-0 lead. Trailing 10-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Highlanders battled back to score four runs in the final frame, but it was too little too late and Immaculata earned a 10-5 win in Game One.

Sam Dralle took the ball in Game One and looked great early. Dralle tossed three scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fourth. Immaculata opened the fourth with two-straight singles before a double brought home both runners. A groundout later in the inning allowed the third run of the frame to score, but Dralle got out of the inning without further damage.

As mentioned, the Mighty Macs used the long ball in the fifth to plate six runs. Howie Kalamets and Justin Dempsey each launched balls over the left field wall to help the Mighty Macs to a six-run inning.

Cairn got a run back in the bottom of the fifth with a single up the middle off the bat of Keith LeNoue. LeNoue worked the count full before poking the payoff pitch up the middle to put Cairn on the board.

In the bottom of the seventh it was LeNoue again plating another run. With two away, LeNoue knocked a pitch right through the pitcher's legs and into center field to bring home Daniel Morales. LeNoue's single made it a 10-2 game.

The Highlanders continued to fight with Brendan Keller and Jacob Allen each notching RBI singles and Andrew Philips hustling home on a passed ball. The four seventh inning runs were not enough and the Mighty Macs earned a 10-5 victory in the game.

Dralle took the loss for the Highlanders, falling to 3-3 on the season after pitching 4.1 innings while allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits. Matt Trotman tossed two innings of relief and Matthew Meyers induced a double-play on just one pitch in the top of the seventh to escape a bases loaded jam.

Game Two – Immaculata defeats Cairn 10-2
The Mighty Macs jumped all over the Highlanders with three runs in the top of the first. Cairn countered with a run in the bottom of the second thanks to an error on the Immaculata shortstop, but the Mighty Macs tacked on three more runs in the fourth and an additional four in the sixth to claim the 10-2 final.

Three batters into the game the Mighty Macs had the bases loaded and all three outs to work with. A ground ball double play allowed a run to score, but gave the Highlanders a pair of outs. The next batter skied a ball to right field that Andrew Philips lost in the sun. The ball hit the turf, allowing a run to score. Two batters later, a wild pitch allowed the third run to score and put Cairn in an early 3-0 hole.

Cairn loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the first and looked poised to score, but a long fly out to left center ended the threat and left the bases juiced.

Cairn did break through in the second inning. Keith LeNoue led off the frame with a single up the middle and stole second before scoring on an error by the Immaculata shortstop.

Already holding a 3-1 lead, the Mighty Macs added some insurance with a three-run fourth inning. Immaculata plated runs on a wild pitch, a squeeze, and a throwing error to take a 6-1 advantage.

Two innings later the Mighty Macs put the game out of reach with a four-spot in the sixth. Now trailing 10-1, Cairn countered with a run in the bottom of the sixth on one of the odder plays of the season. With one out, Josh Field struck out but reached first on a wild pitch, bringing Daniel Morales to the dish.

Morales ripped a single down the first base line that sent Field to third. Morales then rounded first too far and the Immaculata right fielder tried to throw behind him, Morales dove back for the bag, but the ball got loose and Field hustled home for Cairn's second run of the game.

The Highlanders went down in order in the seventh and dropped the second game of the day by a 10-2 final.

Daniel Morales and Keith LeNoue accounted for the only hits in the game for the Highlanders.

Ryan Blough tossed five innings for Immaculata allowing one unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out six. Blough earned his fifth win of the year to improve to 5-1. Kameron Bradshaw took the loss allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits and five walks over 3.2 innings. Bradshaw struck out two batters.

Matthew Meyers, Daniel Morales, and Eric Stinglen were called on in relief to nail down the final 3.1 innings. Only Stinglen finished without a run being charged against him.

The Highlanders will next take the field on Friday afternoon when they host the Keystone Giants to begin a three-game series, game time slated for 3:00 p.m.
