Box Score 2 Allentown, PA – The Cairn softball team dropped the opening game in a doubleheader against the Cedar Crest Falcons on Thursday by a 6-0 final score. The Falcons scored once in the first and four times in the second to build an early lead before cruising to the Game One victory.
Game One – Cedar Crest defeats Cairn 6-0
Laura Rau tossed five scoreless innings of one-hit ball for the Falcons to earn the 6-0 victory in Game One. The Highlanders struggled offensively throughout the afternoon. Cairn collected just one hit in Game One with a double down the right field line in the fifth inning by
Keely Congleton.
The Falcons scored one run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to right field before plating four runs in the bottom of the second. Cedar Crest fell just a home run shy of a team cycle in the bottom of the second, scoring runs on a single, double, triple, and sacrifice fly.
The Falcons tacked on a run in the sixth on a groundout to first base for their final run of the game.
Meagan Maratita went four innings for the Highlanders, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and one walk. Maratita turned the Falcons away in order in both the third and fourth before giving way to
Haley Tinney, who tossed the final two frames. Tinney allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks in relief.
Game Two - Cedar Crest defeats Cairn 15-3
Meagan Maratita hammered a two-run homer to center field in the top of the second to put the Highlanders up 3-2. The Falcons responded with 13 unanswered runs to claim Game Two by a 15-3 final and complete the doubleheader sweep.
At the dish,
Haley Tinney and
Angela Paskitti each collected a pair of hits to go along with Maratita's blast.
Charlotte Camp also drove home a run with a bases loaded walk in the top of the first.
In the circle, Maratita took the loss to drop to 7-5 on the season. She went three innings allowing nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits and one walk.
For the Falcons, Molly Schnaubelt led the offense with a 4-4 effort in Game Two with three doubles, four runs battened in, and two runs scored.
The Highlanders will next take the field on Saturday in a doubleheader when they travel to Trinity Washing University to take on the Tigers at 12:00 p.m.
