No. 11 Royals Too Much for Highlanders; Sweep Cairn

Langhorne, PA - The Cairn men's volleyball team returned to their home court Friday night to take on the No. 11 Eastern Mennonite Royals.  The Royals swept the Highlanders in straight sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-19).

Andy Willits collected a game high 16 kills on the evening. Entering the match, Ludvik was leading the CVC with total digs (248) and digs per set (3.10), he improved on those numbers with a match-high 13 digs.

The Royals started off the match strong with a dominating first set. Eastern Mennonite won the set 25-12, while swinging at an impressive .647 clip. The Royals collected 12 kills while committing just one error.
 
While the second and third sets were more even in play, the Royals held control for a majority of the match. In the two final sets, the Royals jumped out to early leads before the Highlanders battled back. In the second set, the Royals led 15-10 before the Highlanders rattled off five points to tie the score at 15-15.
 
Later in the set with the Highlanders trailing by just one at 21-20, the Royals called a timeout. Eastern Mennonite regrouped and scored four of the final five points to earn the 25-21 victory in the set.
 
The third set started with the Royals opening a 10-point advantage at 19-9 before Cairn closed the gap to 23-18, but it was too little too late and Eastern Mennonite closed out the set and the match with a 25-19 victory in the third to complete the 3-0 sweep.
 
The Highlanders will be back action tomorrow morning as they will host a tri-match with No. 9 Marymount and Alvernia to finish up the home slate for the 2017 season.
 
Game One with Marymount is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with Marymount taking on Alvernia at 1 p.m., and Cairn taking the floor for their second match of the day against Alvernia at 3 p.m.

Besides the final home tri-match, Cairn will also take time to honor their two seniors, Andy Willits and Ben Chapman, before the start of the Alvernia game.
