Highlanders Edge Davis In Non-Conference Tilt

Johnson City, NY - The Cairn women's basketball team took down the Davis Falcons 64-58 on Monday night behind a big night from Madelyn Brodish. The freshman forward dropped 20 points on a 7-14 shooting night, while also grabbing 16 rebounds for an impressive double-double. Payton Emerick also finished with a double-double for the Highlanders grabbing 16 rebounds and scoring 10 points in the game.

Cairn led 28-26 at the half before edging the Falcons 36-32 in the second-half en route to the 64-58 final.

The 16 rebounds grabbed by both Emerick and Brodish fell just three short of the single-game high this season for a Highlander (Emerick – 19 vs. Mid-Atlantic Christian (2OT) Jan. 12, 2017).

In the game, Cairn short 32.4 percent, their lowest shooting percentage in a victory this season. Additionally, the Highlanders went just 1-12 from beyond the arc, tying their season-opener for their worst shooting percentage (8.3%) in a contest this season. The rough shooting night was combatted by the Highlanders' strong effort on the glass. Cairn out rebounded the Falcons 55-33 in the contest, for their largest rebounding margin in a game this season.

With a plus-22 rebounding margin, the Highlanders took 21 more shots than Davis on Monday night.

In addition to strong performances from Brodish and Emerick, Kendra Stum checked-in with 13 points for her first double-digit scoring total in five games.

The victory improves the Highlanders to 8-12 on the season and Cairn will next take the floor on Wednesday when they travel to Cabrini to take on the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m.
