Marywood Handles Highlanders In CSAC Contest

Langhorne, PA - The Cairn women's basketball team ran into the streaking Marywood Pacers on Saturday evening. The Pacers took care of the Highlanders by a 73-35 final to win their 10th-straight game. The Highlanders were led offensively by Madelyn Brodish's 10 points. Brodish also grabbed seven rebounds to tie for the team lead.

The Pacers started hot and, despite a competitive second quarter, never looked back en route to the comfortable victory. Marywood took a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes and change of the first quarter. The Highlanders countered with a 7-0 run thanks to buckets from Kendra Stum and a Victoria Stum and a three-ball from EJ Hartzler. The Pacers ended the quarter on a 12-1 run and took a 27-10 lead into the second stanza.

As mentioned, the second quarter was the most competitive 10 minutes of the game as the Pacers won the quarter 14-12. The Highlanders cut the lead to as few as 13 points at 31-18 after a layup by Madelyn Brodish. After the contested quarter, Marywood led 41-22 at the break.

The first few minutes of the second-half look like the Highlanders were going to hang around as Brodish led the Highlanders on an 8-2 run in the first 2:30 of the half. Brodish connected for six of the first eight points for Cairn. After the run, Cairn trailed by just 13 points again at 43-30.

Over the final 17:30 of the contest the Highlanders scored five points against the Pacers' 30 points en route to the 73-35 victory.

Catie Nealon led four double-digit scorers for the Pacers with 20 points, including six three-pointers.

The loss drops the Highlanders to 7-12 on the season and 4-8 in the CSAC. Cairn will next take the floor on Monday when they travel to Davis College in Johnson City, NY for a game at 6:00 p.m.
