Centenary Blows Past Highlanders in Last Home Game

Langhorne, PA - The Cairn women's basketball team struggled offensively throughout the night and fell to the Centenary Cyclones by a 57-34 final. Cairn trailed 30-7 at the half and despite playing better in the second-half did not have enough in the tank to dig out of the large first-half hole.

Kendra Stum and Charlotte Camp led Cairn with seven points each in the loss.

The first-half was one of the rougher halves the Highlanders had played this season. Cairn struggled to find the bottom of the hole and was 3-31 from the field (9.7%). At the end of the first quarter, the Highlanders trailed 11-5 and despite their struggles from the floor were in the game. The Cyclones then started the second quarter on a 17-0 run to turn a six-point lead into a 23-point advantage.

Charlotte Camp made a layup with 13 seconds left in the half to get Cairn on the board in the second quarter, but Centenary held a 30-7 lead at the break.

Cairn battled in the second-half and played even with the Cyclones for a majority of the half. Kendra Stum started Cairn's best run of play in the game with a heave from just inside of half-court that beat the buzzer that ended the third quarter. The Highlanders then opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0. That run, combined with Stum's first three-pointer of the season, gave Cairn an 11-0 streak that brought the score to 49-28.

Despite a strong second-half, including the Highlanders winning the fourth quarter (14-8), it was not enough as the Cyclones rolled to a 57-34 victory.

Seven players scored for Cairn, led by Camp and Stum with seven points each.Kendra Stum and Payton Emerick each grabbed six rebounds to lead the Highlanders.

Cairn will wrap up the 2017 regular season on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Crest to take on the Falcons at 1:00 p.m.
