LANGHORNE, PA- After a slow start, and tough shooting first half, the Highlanders were unable to bounce back against the visiting Cavaliers dropping the contest by a final score of 40-59.
Â
Facing a tough test in their second CSAC game of the season, the Highlanders welcomed the Cabrini Cavaliers to Langhorne in search of their first conference victory.
Payton Emerick and
Victoria Stum opened the scoring with a layup and two free throws to put the Highlanders ahead 4-0 to start the game. Cabrini would bounce back, utilizing a man press to force Cairn into a couple key turnovers to retake the lead. However, the Highlanders and
Kendra Stum would fight back, getting to the foul line for the overwhelming majority of their first half points. Additionally,
Aigner Bookard, playing atop the Cairn zone, snagged an impressive 4 steals in the first half to thwart the Cavalier attack. The Highlanders struggled mightily with the press in the first half, with 16 turnovers, and only a 25% shooting percentage over the first 20 minutes.
Â
Cabrini used a 10-2 run to stretch their first half lead, but the Highlanders would clean up their offensive attack, behind the hot-shooting of freshman guard Jenna Krage who tallied a team-leading 9 points on 3-4 shooting in the second half. Krage's shooting, paired with Stum's all-around play, and
Payton Emerick's rebounding prowess fought hard to push the Highlanders ahead, but Cabrini's lead was simply insurmountable as the Highlanders dropped their 2
nd CSAC contest by a final score of 40-59.
Â
Kendra Stum tallied 14 points and 8 rebound to lead Cairn, Krage chipped in with 9 points and 3 rebounds, and Emerick fought her way to 7 points and 11 rebounds, her second straight game with double digit rebounds.
Â
The Highlanders will seek their second win of the season against Penn State Berks at 7:00 PM on Friday night.
