Highlanders Cruise Past Cougars For Second Straight Win

BROOKLYN, NY- The Highlanders traveled to the city to take on the Cougars of Medgar Evers college in an out-of-conference matchup. Rejuvenated by their lengthy Christmas break, Cairn coasted to a commanding victory by a final score of 69-41.

Aigner Bookard set the tone early with ten points in the first four and a half minutes to give Cairn a commanding 17-4 lead after the first quarter. Bookard made her mark, not with her usual marauding drives to the rim, but with two three pointers. If the junior can continue to stretch defenses with her long-range shot it would greatly open up the Highlanders offensive attack. The Highlanders flew around on defense in the opening half, limiting the Cougars to 27% shooting from the field, and an impressive 0% from beyond the arc.

Nestling a stellar 34-18 lead after the first half, Cairn mounted a 12-0 run to begin the 3rd quarter and stretch their advantage to an insurmountable mark of 46-18. The Highlanders would ride out the rest of the game with little to no drama, finishing their first win of the second semester and carrying on the momentum from their thrilling OT victory at the end of the fall semester.

Kendra Stum absolutely stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals, while Bookard finished with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals of her own. Tori Stum tallied double-digit points again with 11 points.

The Highlanders will be in search of their third straight, and first CSAC win when they match up with Notre Dame of Maryland University at 7:00 PM, January 3rd.
