Cairn Concludes Regular Season On Senior Day

LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted the Cavaliers of Cabrini University in the regular season finale this afternoon, losing by a score of 5-1.

The Highlanders and their families honored the stellar careers of each of their seniors before today's contest. Kenneth Mercadante, Connor Grogan, Brady Dorman, Matthew Bergmaier, and Cameron Desautell each took the field with their families, and later in the starting lineup for the last regular season game of their career.

The Cavaliers unceremoniously ended the Senior Day festivities three minutes into the contest with a quick jaunt past the Cairn back line, and a shot that was placed perfectly into the right hand corner of the net. Caught off guard by the quick passing of Cabrini's attack, Cairn conceded a second goal in the 10th minute after a through ball slid just out of the reach of centerbacks Tyler Smith and Bergmaier. Woken up by the 2 goal deficit, Cairn began to settle in and press forward led by the fearless play of forward Brendan Keller and midfielder Brett Kikendall. The duo would create the Highlanders first goal when Kikendall played a ball in to Joey Weaver, whose shot was deflected, but fell at the feet of Keller who powerfully fired his shot into the back of the net. Four minutes later, Cabrini would net their third goal of the day and with the playoff seeding officially set before this afternoon's contest both Coaches were content to keep their cards close to their chest and play conservatively. With a vast rotation of players from both teams subbing in and out, the Highlanders and Cavaliers were both content to finish the game injury free and head on to the CSAC playoffs.

The Highlanders finished the regular season at 9-8 overall, 4-5 in the CSAC. It's their first finish above .500 since 2011 and the first CSAC postseason berth since Cairn joined the conference. The Highlanders ended the season as the 6th seed and will travel to Centenary on 10/31 to face off against the Cyclones in the first round. Cairn lost an intense 2-0 game to Centenary at homecoming earlier in the season, and the Highlanders will welcome another opportunity to dethrone last year's conference champion.
