LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders rolled to their third win in the last five matches, defeating the Bryn Athyn Lions in 3 straight sets, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-12.
Fueled by a raucous home crowd, the Highlanders jumped on the Lions from the start, taking a commanding 9-3 lead due in large part to the stellar serving of
Brie Norton and a couple demonstrative kills from freshman
Lyntia Gwess. The Lions would come roaring back with a 6 point run, bringing the match within one point; but never fazed the Highlanders dispatched the Lions by scoring 13 of the next 18 points. Cairn kept up their excellent play in the second set, with contributions from everyone across the board. From
Brooke Seidel's serving, to excellent defense from
Kylie McCann, Micaiah Randolph, and
Brie Norton, and fluid chemistry between setter
Liz White and outside hitters
Haley Sheehan and Gwess the Highlanders coasted through the second set, winning 25-13. Urged on by Coach
Whitney Seidel and the Cairn Crazies, there was no letdown in our Highlanders play in the third set. When the refs blew the final whistle Cairn had defeated the Lions 25-12.
Tia Gwess tallied 10 kills, 4 digs, and 4 service aces,
Haley Sheehan had 7 kills and 14 digs of her own, and
Kylie McCann chipped in with 11 digs as well.
The Highlanders will finish their season over the next four days as they travel to play Rutgers-Newark on 10/26 and host Clarks Summit for senior day on 10/28.
