Keystone Keeps the Highlanders at Bay

SCRANTON, PA- With CSAC playoff implications on the line this afternoon the Highlanders battled against Keystone College.

The Highlanders, sporting a new lineup, started out slowly on a brisk day in Scranton conceding two early goals to the Giants. Ibrahim Tounkara netted the first for Keystone when he charged into the middle of the box and powered a header past the Highlanders defense. Carlos Bonilla followed up a mere 4 minutes later as he received a through ball and slotted it through the Cairn defense and past keeper Colin Baker. Baker was tested throughout much of the first half as the young keeper was forced to make an excellent 7 saves. The Highlanders totaled 5 shots in the first half to Keystone's 14.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Cairn pushed to equalize but was beaten once more as the Giants knocked in a cross from the left side to stretch the lead 3 goals. Cairn pressured the Giants defense a bit more in the second half with 6 shots and 5 on frame, however the Highlanders could not find a breakthrough goal. When the final horn sounded, the Highlanders had been defeated 0-3 dropping their conference record to 2-4, while Keystone improved to 4-1-1 in the CSAC.

After a stellar start to the season, the Highlanders have been scuffling lately and will need to find their form over the last three games of the season to make a final push for the playoffs. Cairn will welcome Clarks Summit University to Langhorne on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
