Langhorne, PA - Seemingly everything the Keystone men's basketball team put up from beyond the arc went in on Wednesday night. The Giants shot an impressive 15-29 from downtown for a 51.7% mark on the evening, well above their season average of 28.5% from downtown to defeat the Cairn Highlanders 92-72. The Giants opened up a 25-point lead at the half when they led 50-25 after 20 minutes before cruising to the 20-point victory.
Â
Cairn had a stretch of strong play early in the second-half, but the deficit proved to be too much as the Giants rolled to their second CSAC victory of the season. In the game four Highlanders went for double-digits with
Zachary Dolton (16 points) and
Gerroid Doughty II (14) leading the way offensively.
Chris Uhrich turned in an efficient game with 12 points on a 6-8 shooting effort, he also grabbed seven boards in the contest.
Â
Off the bench,
Seil Park was instant offense with 11 points in 16 minutes.
Josh Decker chimed in with a pair of threes in just eight minutes of play.
Â
The game started better than Highlanders ever could have anticipated. The Giants were whistled for a technical foul almost a full-hour before the game started for dunking during warm-ups. As a result
JD Zamroz stepped to the free throw line before the opening tip for a free throw. The senior drained it to give Cairn a 1-0 lead before the game even started.
Â
The lead was short lived as Keystone took the tip and immediately scored to start a 9-0 run in the game's first 90 seconds. Cairn closed the lead to as few as four when the score stood 14-10 with 14:22 remaining in the half but the Giants grew their lead over the course of the half. Keystone pushed the lead over 20 for the first time on a three by Deion Monroe with 3:29 remaining in the half. That trey gave the Giants a 42-21 advantage.
Â
Three minutes later back-to-back threes by Monroe ended the half and gave Keystone a 50-25 lead at the intermission.
Â
The Highlanders came out of the gate in the second-half with a flash, scoring the stanza's first 12 points to cut the lead almost in half at 50-37. The Giants weathered the storm and went on a 7-0 run of their own to open the lead back up to 20 points.
Â
Over the final 14-plus minutes the Highlanders could get no closer than 15 and the Giants ran away with the victory by a 92-72 margin.
Â
As noted, the Giants shot a season-high 51.7 percent from beyond the arc. Mark Gilliam led the Giants with six three-pointers and a season-high 23 points.
Â
The loss drops the Highlanders to 2-10 on the season and 1-6 in the CSAC. Cairn will next take the floor against the Marywood Pacers on Saturday afternoon. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
