Mighty Macs Take Care of Highlanders in Three Sets

Immaculata, PA - The Cairn Highlanders fell to the Immaculata Mighty Macs on Friday night by a final score of 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-10). Immaculata opened the night on a 13-0 run that was an indication of things to come for the rest of the evening.

After the early run by Immaculata, Cairn picked up a pair of points. Brie Norton picked up a kills, the Highlanders lone kill of the first set, to stop the Mighty Mac run before Cairn earned a second-straight point on an Immaculata attacking error. Norton picked up a service ace late in the set, but Immaculata came away with the victory in the first set by a score of 25-8.

The Mighty Macs picked-up set two with another impressive performance, taking the set by a 25-7 final. In the set, Cairn collected four kills from four separate hitters. Norton, Whitney Seidel, Ashley Wharton, and Ashley Chamberlin each tallied a kill in the game.

In set three the Highlanders fell into an early hole as they did in the first two games, but solid play late led the Highlanders to double-digit points for the first time on the evening. Facing a 19-6 deficit, Cairn won four of the final 10 points (each on kills) before dropping the set 25-10.

Immaculata handled the Highlanders in nearly every offensive category except for blocks where Cairn held a 3-1 lead.

Whitney Seidel led the Highlanders with three kills on the evening while Liz White assisted on eight of the Highlanders 10 kills. A trio of Highlanders - White, Brie Norton, and Amanda Andujar - each picked up seven digs to lead the way defensively.

Cairn will have a quick turnaround as they host Trinity Washington University on Saturday morning to kick-off a full athletic slate on Homecoming. Game time slated for 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
