HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - The Highlanders softball team opened up conference play Saturday afternoon as they traveled north to take on Centenary. Cairn dropped both contests to the Cyclones, 21-3 in game one and 12-0 in game two. Cairn struggled to get their bats going as they only produced seven hits on the day, four in game one and three in game two.
The Highlanders were led offensively by
Katelynn Reiss. Reiss was 4-4 on the day with two doubles and her first home run of her collegiate career.
Keely Congleton was the other lone Highlander that was able to drive in run in game one. The Highlanders did a better job putting the ball in play today and limited the number of strike outs on the day. Besides Reiss, the Highlanders got hits from
Kaitlin Gibbs,
Rachel Clark, and
Lydia Hill. Hill's hit was her first of her young career on the diamond.
Rachel Clark was in the circle for the Highlanders and suffered both losses, dropping her overall record to 0-4 on the season. A problem that has plagued the Highlanders on the season has been walks. Today, Clark did a better job of limiting free passes to the Cyclones.
Cairn falls to 0-12 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Cyclones improve to 2-9 and 2-0 in conference play. Cairn will be back in action tomorrow, as they travel down to Baltimore to take on the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University, a make up from Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
