Lancaster, PA – Cairn men's volleyball defeated the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College for the second time this season with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday evening. The sets were highly contested as the first two were won by Cairn 26-24 followed by a 26-24 win by Lancaster Bible; the Highlanders finished off the match with a 25-21 win.
The Chargers finished with one more kill than Cairn (44-43) but the Higlanders edged the Chargers with two more blocks (10-8). However, the Highlanders had an overall attack percentage of .200 to the Chargers mark of .077.
Cairn came back from being down 24-23 in the first set to win the next three points and take the set win.
Micah Godshall tied the game at 24-24 with a kill and the Chargers committed two attack errors for the next two Highlander points.
In the second set the Highlanders fought back from a 10-2 deficit and eventually took the lead 18-17. Cairn then won the set on a 5-1 run capped off by a kill from
David Dager and a block from
Matthew Gump and
Dan Winters.
Leading the match for the Highlanders in kills was
Andy Willits with 15, followed by
Micah Godshall with 11.
Dan Winters and
David Dager each collected seven kills, while
Matthew Gump finished with 37 assists.
Ryan Ludvik led the team defensively with 13 digs.
The Highlanders lost a close third set to the Chargers by another 26-24 score but came back to win the fourth set. Cairn built a 15-8 lead over Lancaster Bible but the Chargers erased that with a 7-0 run to tie the game. Cairn ended the match on a 4-1 run; the final point courtesy of

Lancaster Bible was led by Kasey Gentry with 19 kills, followed by Derek Bigley with 13. Garyd Martin matched Gump's assist total with 37. Gentry also finished with 14 digs to lead the team.
Cairn improved to 5-13 overall with the win, while Lancaster Bible dropped to 7-20 overall with the loss. The Highlanders will next travel to Thiel College on April 1st, followed by Juniata College on April 2nd to finish off the 2016 season.
