Langhorne, PA – Cairn University softball opened their 2016 season with tough losses to Penn State Hazleton on Friday afternoon; 26-0 and 10-2. The Nittany Lions did most of the damage in the first inning of the first game and the Highlanders improved from then on.
 
Vanessa Mich secured a double-digit advantage for the Nittany Lions in the first game with a grand slam and the Nittany Lions continued to put on the pressure through the first inning. Penn State Hazleton also struck out seven batters throughout the game to keep the Highlanders off the board.
 
The Highlanders fared much better in the second game of the day with a 10-2 loss. Katelyn Loveless dropped her number of walks from 15 down to four, while Keely Congleton hit a two-RBI double in the fourth inning. Jessica Piccolo and Katelyn Loveless also had hits in game two.
 
Cairn will look to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Lancaster Bible College to take on the Chargers. The Highlanders will start the season 0-2, while Penn State Hazleton improved to 4-6 overall.
