Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cairn Stopped At Centenary With 68-52 Loss

Hackettstown, NJ – Cairn men's basketball lost their second game of the season to Centenary College on Saturday afternoon after the Cyclones came away with the 68-52 victory. In the defensively-minded game, Cairn shot just 27% from the floor and 28% from beyond the arc, while Centenary was 41% and 30%, respectively.

Gerroid Doughty II led all scorers in the game with 21 points and was 5-11 from three-point range. Julian Collazo followed with 10 points and seven rebounds. Similar to the last time these two teams played, Myles McLeod led the Cyclones in both points (18) and rebounds (19).

The teams got off to a relatively slow start, with Centenary scoring just one point over the first 5:55 of the game. Cairn scored just four points over that time, but led the game until Centenary tied up the score at 9-9 and 11-11. JD Zamroz then tied the game at 13-13 for the Highlanders before Centenary started to pull ahead.

The Cyclones built a 19-13 lead but that was followed up by a Zamroz and Doughty Three-pointer and the game was again tied up at 19-19. Centenary then quickly jumped out to a 29-21 lead with a couple of three-pointers and two free throws.

Cairn brought the lead back down to six from there but the Cyclones finished out the first half with a 14-piont lead, 41-27. The Highlanders were 8-9 from the three-throw line in the first half, compared to Centenary's 6-11 from the charity stripe.

Centenary built off of that lead at the start of the second half to go ahead 51-30 about four minutes into the half. Cairn was unable to get the deficit closer than 14 points for the remainder of the game as Centenary's defense was up to the task.

With the loss, Cairn dropped to 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the conference. Centenary improved to 13-10 overall and 9-7 in the CSAC with the win. The Highlanders will next host Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday, Feb. 17, before hosting Summit University on Saturday, Feb. 20, for senior day.
