Highlanders Cruise to First CSAC Victory of Year

Langhorne, PA - The Cairn women's basketball team earned their first conference victory of the 2016-17 season on Saturday afternoon with a 68-46 win over Cedar Crest College in the Mason Activity Center. The Highlanders were led by sophomore guard Aigner Bookard, who poured in 21 points on the afternoon.

Charlotte Camp (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Madelyn Brodish (10 points, 13 rebounds) both collected double-doubles and Payton Emerick (nine points, 12 rebounds) finished a point shy of a third double-double for the Highlanders.

After a slow start to the first-quarter, the Highlanders turned it on and went on an 11-2 run in the final four minutes of the first period to take a nine-point lead. Cairn never looked back, extending their lead to 31-18 at the half en route to a 68-46 final.

As noted, the beginning of the contest looked like neither team was interested in putting the ball in the bottom of the bucket. Aigner Bookard made a layup for Cairn two minutes into the game and Gemini Cabrera connected on a lay-up a minute later and the game stood even at 2-2, 3:30 into the game.

Cairn later trailed 8-5 but EJ Hartzler hit her lone three of the game with 4:33 left in the quarter to tie the game and spark a 14-2 run that ended the first-quarter with the Highlanders leading by nine.

After Cairn scored the first four points in the second-quarter off a jumper from Kendra Stum and a layup Charlotte Camp the Highlanders led 23-10. For the final 8:43 of the half, the Highlanders and Falcons trailed buckets with Cairn's lead holding firm at 13 or 11 points the entire way.

Cairn held a 31-18 lead at the break and never looked over the final 20 minutes in the game. Cairn quickly pushed their lead to 19 points at 37-18 and held at least 15 points the rest of the way.

The Highlanders held their largest lead of the game at 52-29 with 6:59 remaining before going on to win by a 68-46 final.

The win was Cairn's second of the season and first conference victory of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Highlanders will next take the court on Wednesday when they travel to Wilson College for a game beginning at 6:00 p.m.
