Annville, PA - The Cairn men's basketball team fell to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Saturday afternoon 74-54.
Gerroid Doughty II scored 16 points in the loss, including 15 in the first-half to pace the offense.
The game opened at an extremely slow scoring pace. Seven minutes into the contest
Seil Park made a layup off a pass from
Julian Collazo to pull the Highlanders within one at 11-10. After another bucket from Park the Highlanders took a 12-11 lead.
After the layups from Park, the Dutchmen went on a 14-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 10-point lead at 25-15. After the Lebanon Valley run, neither team scored for nearly two-minutes. The next bucket came off a jumper from
Gerroid Doughty II from the baseline.
The jumper from Doughty started a stretch where the senior guard scored the next 10 points for the Highlanders. With 10 points from Doughty on a pair of jumpers and a pair of threes the Highlanders cut the lead to 29-25 with less than three minutes remaining in the half.
The Dutchmen scored the final 11 points of the half and took a 40-25 lead into the break.
After the intermission, the Dutchmen continued their strong play for large stretches of the final 20 minutes. Less than five minutes into the half, Lebanon Valley opened up a 20-point lead at 55-35.
Cairn then went on a nine-point run to climb back into the contest, eventually trailing 55-44 after a pair of free throws from
Jeremiah Harris with 10:46 remaining in regulation. The run was highlighted by back-to-back buckets from
Zachary Dolton. The first was a three off a pass from Collazo and the second a jumper to make it 55-42.
The Highlanders would not get any closer the rest of the way as the Dutchmen pulled away late and went on for the 74-54 victory.
Lebanon Valley's Andy Orr and Sam Light were thorns in the Cairn side all afternoon. The duo combined for 44 points - 22 points each - in the victory. With the win the Dutchmen move back to .500 with a 5-5 record.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 2-6 on the season. Cairn will next take the floor on Thursday when they travel to take on the Messiah Falcons in Grantham at 7:00 p.m.
