Griffins Take Down Highlanders in CSAC Opener

Langhorne, PA - The Gwynedd Mercy Griffins jumped out to a 47-22 half-time lead against the Highlanders and cruised to an 88-50 victory. Charlotte Kucowski led the Griffins with 22 points on the night to led Gwynedd Mercy to their first victory of the season.

EJ Hartzler led the Highlanders with 15 points off the bench knocking down five, three-pointers on the night. Kendra Stum also added 12 points in the loss.

The Griffins jumped out to an early nine-point lead thanks to a 9-0 run in the contest's opening three minutes and change. The Highlanders closed the gap to as few as six points when Hartzler hit a three to make it 16-10 with 2:30 remaining in the first-quarter, but that was as close as the Highlanders would get the rest of the way.

Gwynedd Mercy put the game out of reach with a 20-6 run to end the half and take a 47-22 lead into the break. Five different Griffins scored during the 6:33 run. In the first-half alone, Gwynedd Mercy senior, Charlotte Kucowski scored 15 points in 15 minutes to lead all scorers.

The Griffins picked-up right where they left off to start the second-half extending their lead to 34-points at 58-24. Hartzler ended the run with a triple Aigner Bookard with 7:21 remaining in the third-quarter.

The three started a quick 7-0 run for the Highlanders to close the gap to 58-31, but that was as close as Cairn would get in the final 18 minutes before falling by a 88-50 final.

As mentioned, Hartzler and her five three-pointers led the way for the Highlanders in the loss.

Cairn falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the CSAC. The Highlanders next take the floor on Saturday when they host the Cedar Crest Falcons in their last home game of the fall semester.
