Langhorne, PA - The Cairn Highlanders and Neumann Knights combined for nine goals on 43 shots on Tuesday afternoon in a victory for Neumann.
Payton Emerick collected a goal in the first ten minutes for the Highlanders to cut a 2-0 lead for the Knights in half.
Courtney Novak and
Meghan Wilson scored in the final six minutes for Cairn's final two goals, but it wasn't enough as Neumann scored a goal in the 87th minute to take down the Highlanders 6-3.
Â
The Knights opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes. Savannah Sticher and Grace Stauffer scored in the third and the seventh minutes respectively to open-up a two-goal cushion in the early going.
Â
As mentioned
Payton Emerick found a tally in the eighth minute to cut that lead in half. From the left-side,
Meghan Wilson found Emerick at the top of the box who ran onto the pass and ripped a shot top shelf for her third goal of the season.
Â
For a majority of the contest it looked like Emerick's tally was going to be the only Highlanders' goal on the afternoon. In the 86th minute that changed when Wilson sent a cross into the box from the left-side. Wilson's cross went to
Alina Maira, who passed over to
Courtney Novak on the right-side of the box. Novak hammered it home to the near post for her fourth goal of the season and third in the last two games.
Â
Less than a minute later the Highlanders were at it again. This time it was Wilson scoring herself with a beautiful chip over the keeper from the left-side. Wilson had almost no angle at the goal but sent her chip over the keeper and off the far post. After hitting the post the ball found the back of the net for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Â
The late goals by Novak and Wilson followed a run of three-straight goals by the Knights in the 17th, 36th, and 58th minutes and cut the Neumann lead to 5-3. Neumann scored a final goal in the 87th minute to cap off th3 6-3 victory.
Â
Payton Emerick made her debut between the pipes in the second-half making four saves against six shots on goal.
Â
The loss moves the Highlanders to 3-6-0 on the season and 0-4-0 in the CSAC. Cairn will next take the pitch on Saturday when they host the Keystone Giant. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
