Highlanders Falter in CSAC Match with Cabrini

Langhorne, PA - The Cairn women's soccer team fell to the first-place Cabrini Cavaliers 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers scored twice in the first-half and added a third in the 56th minute.

Cairn mustered five shots on the afternoon in the shutout.

The Highlanders had the first quality opportunity in the fourth minute when Katie Ruitto ran onto a ball form the midfield. Her one-touch shot from above the 18 sailed high over the bar.

After the early chance for the Highlanders, the Cavaliers controlled the majority of play throughout the rest of the first-half. With Cabrini holding the majority of the run of play, the Highlanders did get off a couple of attempts in the 28th minute. Courtney Novak had a shot blocked and Meghan Wilson sent one high.

In the 32nd minute, Cairn goalie Payton Emerick came well off her line her stop a slotted pass at the top of the box for the Cavaliers.

Nine minutes after the stopped attack by Emerick, Cabrini found their first goal of the match in the 41st minute. Brenna Stocklin sent a low cross in to the box and Diana VanSickle came onto it and put one through from the right-side.

Now holding a 1-0 lead the Cavaliers were not done in the first-half, with seconds ticking away Katelyn Gilinger had a breakaway down the right-side and found the back of the net with just five seconds left in the half to double the Cabrini lead.

After half-time the Cavaliers controlled the majority of play tallying their third and final goal in the 56th minute.

Cairn had their best chance of the second-half in the 75th minute when Hannah Morrison sent a free kick from well outside the 18, over the bar.

The loss drops the Highlanders to 4-8-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the CSAC.

Cairn will next take the field on Saturday when they travel to Notre Dame University of Maryland. Game time slated for 2:30 p.m.
