Gwynedd Valley, PA – Cairn University fell to 4-7 in the conference on Saturday afternoon after an 80-33 defeat at Gwynedd Mercy University. The Highlanders were outscored in each of the four quarters and fell into a 50-18 hole at the half.
Amie Eppolito led the Highlanders with 10 points, followed by
Kendra Stum with eight points and nine rebounds.
Devon Rink collected eight rebounds and five points, while
Aigner Bookard scored seven points and had two steals.
The Griffins were able to force 29 turnovers from the Highlanders in the game, compared to 14 of their own. Charlotte Kucowski and Nicole Dembrowski led Gwynedd Mercy with 14 points each, while Julianna Hoisington and Olivia Bradford each finished in double digits in points.
The Highlanders held an early 5-2 lead in the first quarter, but the Griffins overtook the Highlanders from there and went on an 8-0 run to lead 10-5. Cairn cut the deficit to 12-10 midway through the quarter but the Griffins finished off the first quarter up 28-12.
Cairn could not recover against the league-leaders from there and the Griffins improved to 8-1 in the conference with the win. The Highlanders fell to 4-7 in the CSAC and 5-14 overall with the loss.
The Highlanders will next travel to Neumann University on Wednesday, Feb. 3, to face the Knights at a 7 p.m. start time.
