Highlanders Unable To Keep Up With Pacers

Langhorne, PA – The Cairn women's basketball team fell to the Pacers of Marywood University on Wednesday night, 59-35, in conference action. The Pacers jumped out to a big lead through the first half and the Highlanders were unable to recover.
 
The Highlanders converted just 24.6% of their shots from the floor and 13.3% of those from the three-point line. The Pacers on the other hand were 34.3% overall and converted 26 points off of turnovers.
 
Payton Emerick led the team in scoring and rebounding in the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Amie Eppolito scored 10 points for the Highlanders and is now just 30 points away from reaching 1,000 for her career.
 
Kendra Stum finished the game with eight points and five rebounds, while Amy Faust put up four points with seven rebounds.
 
Early on in the first quarter, Cairn and Marywood exchanged the lead a couple times but by the end the Pacers had built a ten-point lead, 17-7. The Pacers then took a halftime lead of 39-17 to seal the victory.
 
Cairn limited Marywood to just 20 points over the second half, however the Highlanders scored just less than that with 18.
 
The Pacers were led by Gabrielle Giordano with 18 points and eight rebounds, followed by Alyssa Olson with 13 points. Marywood also spread out the minutes across 14 different players, utilizing a system of subbing four to five players at once.
 
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 3-10 overall and 3-3 in the CSAC. Marywood improved to 8-6 overall and 5-0 in the CSAC with the win. The Highlanders will next travel to Rosemont College on Saturday, Jan. 16, to take on the Ravens.
