Camden, NJ – The Highlanders ended their four-game road trip at Rutgers-Camden with a 71-28 loss to the Scarlet Raptors on Monday evening. Cairn was forced to play without a couple of key athletes and Rutgers-Camden proved just too strong in the non-conference matchup.
The Highlanders shot just 14.3% from the floor, including 13% from three-point range. By comparison, the Scarlet Raptors shot 52.5% overall and grabbed 50 total rebounds.
Amie Eppolito and
Kendra Stum both led the team with eight points, while
Payton Emerick pulled down 11 rebounds to lead in that category.
Regina Younger was next in the scoring field for Cairn with four points.
Caroline Santiago led the Scarlet Raptors with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Michelle Obasi followed with 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Highlanders were outscored 23-4 in the first quarter but equaled the Scarlet Raptors in the second quarter 14-14. That was Cairn's best quarter however, and the Highlanders were unable to catch up from there.
With the loss, Cairn dropped to 3-9 overall, while Rutgers-Camden improved to 8-5 overall with the win. The Highlanders will return to CSAC play this Wednesday when they host Marywood University for a 7 p.m. game.
