Langhorne, PA – Cairn University fell to DeSales University on Friday afternoon, 8-0, after six different Bulldogs scored at least a goal against the Highlanders. Cairn was outshot in the game 18-10 by DeSales, with four of those 10 going on-frame.
Payton Emerick took the first shot of the game in the opening minute but it was not enough to really test keeper Haley Jacobs. The attempt was Emerick's only in the game;
Hannah Morrison led the team in shots with five, matching her effort from the season-opener.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring up in the sixth minute of the game and didn't look back from there. DeSales netted two more before 15 minutes had gone by in the first half. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 6-0 in the 35
th minute following two header goals, one coming off a corner kick.
The Highlanders' best chance of the game to put one in the net came from
Alyssa Leister in the 62
nd minute. Leister gathered the ball inside of the 18-yard box on the right side and sent a high shot toward the goal. Goalkeeper Emily Hoats struggled to get her hands on to it but she kept it from going over the line.
DeSales tacked on two more before the end of the game and bettered their first win of the season—a 7-0 defeat of Keystone College. Angelica Bertola scored both goals for the Bulldogs in the second half and completed her hat trick.
Mackenzie Paugh made four saves in the game for the Highlanders, which is equal to the Bulldog's three keepers combined. With the loss, Cairn dropped to 0-2 this season, while DeSales improved to 2-0 with the win. The Highlanders will return to action next Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they play at the City College of New York.
