Highlanders Drop Two In Wilkes Tri-Match

Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Highlanders traveled to Wilkes University on Saturday to take on the host Colonels and Delaware Valley University in non-conference action. Cairn lost to Wilkes University (25-13, 25-12, 25-7) to start the tri-match, and then lost to Delaware Valley University (25-12, 25-19, 25-17) in game two.
 
Although the Highlanders didn't score a high number of points against Wilkes University, the stat sheet looked as good as it has all season. Cairn had 18 kills in the match to Wilkes' 21; and finished with 4 aces and 17 digs. Cairn was led by both Abigail Litman and Breanna Blair with four kills each, followed by Olivia DiGirolamo and Sophia DiLorenzo with three kills each.
 
Haley Sheehan led the Highlanders in digs with nine. Both Blair and DiLorenzo finished the match with no attacking errors. However, the Colonels finished with 11 service aces, 25 digs, and seven blocks. Ally Paskas led the Colonels in kills with six.
 
In game two, against the Aggies of Delaware Valley, The Highlanders collected 14 total kills to the Aggies 16. Delaware Valley really took advantage in the serving department with 20 aces in the match. Whitney Seidel led the team in kills in the second game with five.
 
Breanna Blair did well as the setter against the Aggies and had 10 assists in the match. Haley Sheehan followed Seidel in kills with four; Sophia DiLorenzo had two kills overall. Seidel currently leads the team this season with 27 kills in 2015.
 
Delaware Valley was led by Kayla Bracken with eight kills and six digs, followed by Taylor Klecan with five kills. Nicole Daigeneault led the Aggies in assists with 15.
 
With the losses, Cairn dropped to 0-9 this season, while Wilkes improved to 6-6 and Delaware Valley to 1-4 overall. The Highlanders will return to action this Tuesday when they travel to Lancaster Bible College to take on the Chargers.
