Women's Soccer Falls To Chargers At Home

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders hosted the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday afternoon and fell by a score of 4-2 on Cairn's campus. Cairn lost by a score of 4-0 last season to the Chargers on Lancaster Bible's homecoming.

Lancaster Bible led both teams in shots for the game, 17-12, and in shots on goal 7-6. Corner kicks were nearly even at 5-4 in favor of the Chargers. Mackenzie Paugh made three saves in the game to Kaitlyn Scheuing's four saves.

The Highlanders struck first in the game with a goal in the 17th minute by Meghan Wilson. Laurisa Wager sent a ball in from a corner kick that made its way to Wilson who put it over Scheuing's head to the far corner.

The Chargers responded in the 26th minute when Brooke Cullum hit one into the back of the net after a corner kick. Lancaster Bible then took the lead in the 35th minute on a drop pass out of the box to Raegen Horst who slotted one into the left side of the goal.

Cairn leveled the match less than six minutes later when Courtney Novak did very well to work the ball down the right side almost to the end line in the box and cross the ball over. Alicia Geistdorfer found the ball at her feet and struck a goal past Scheuing.

Not to be outdone, the Chargers put one more away before the end of the first half on a goal by Alyssa Wesner. The shot was assisted by Marisa Jo Abts with just 46 seconds left until halftime. The Chargers added one more for good measure in the second half from Kirsten Webster and held off Cairn until the final whistle.

The Highlanders led the Chargers in shots in the second half, 8-6, but just couldn't get any through. Payton Emerick had one of the best chances late in the game after she was passed the ball on a good run. Emerick sent a rocket towards the goal was it was grabbed by Scheuing.

With the loss, Cairn dropped to 1-3 this season, while Lancaster Bible picked up their first win and moved to 1-3 overall. The Highlanders will return to action on Thursday when they host the University of Valley Forge for a 4 p.m. game.
