Rosemont, PA – The Highlanders picked up their first win this season with a big 9-0 victory over Rosemont College and improved to 1-1 in the CSAC. Cairn dominated the entire match and didn't let the Ravens win more than two games in all but one singles match.
Sara Keating teamed up with
Samantha Shroyer in the no. 2 doubles spot and shut out the Ravens with an 8-0 match.
Rebecca Graber and
Julia Derus continued their unbeaten streak this season and won no. 1 doubles 8-1. Lastly, in doubles,
Kara Williams and
Ricki White picked up the win 8-3.
"Despite a change in our line up, all three doubles pairs took the win," said head coach
Ken Wilson after the match. "The match was won in the next two single games but each of our singles had a victory. It was nice to see what we've been practicing as a team finally come together. Each player has so much potential."
Kara Williams and
Ricki White both picked up their first collegiate wins, not only in doubles, but in singles as well. Williams won 6-1, 6-1 at the no. 5 spot, and White notched the win 6-4, 6-2 as the no. 6 singles.
The remaining singles matches were won with relative ease by the Highlanders, including
Rebecca Graber's, who improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
With the win, Cairn improved to 1-3 on the year and 1-1 in the CSAC, while Rosemont falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Highlanders will return to the courts this Friday when they host Summit University of Pennsylvania at 3:30 p.m.
