Mahwah, NJ – Women's volleyball played at the Ramapo College tri-match on Saturday afternoon against the hosts and Emmanuel College and lost both matches with 3-0 scores. The Roadrunners were just too much for the Highlanders as they defeated Cairn 25-3, 25-8, and 25-4.
The Highlanders fared better against Emmanuel College in their second game of the afternoon with scores of 25-12, 25-12, and 25-16. Cairn was led by
Haley Sheehan against the Saints with three kills,
Whitney Seidel and
Breanna Blair followed with two kills apiece.
Against the Highlanders in match no. 1 of the tri-match, the Roadrunners had a nearly perfect first game with 12 kills and no errors. Overall, Ramapo had an attacking percentage of .571 with just four errors. Twenty-three points came from aces and the Roadrunners had 31 assists.
Early on the Highlanders' first game against Emmanuel College, Cairn led 4-1 and then tied the game at 6-6. The Saints, however, pulled ahead from there with long runs of points to win the first set. The Highlanders also went up early in the third set, 6-1, and looked like they would hold on with the lead at 11-6.
The Saints came back strong though, and utilized an 8-0 run to go ahead in the third set and win 25-16. Emmanuel had an overall attacking percentage in the match of .256, outpacing Cairn on the offensive side of the net.
With the losses, Cairn dropped to 0-5 this season, while Ramapo College improved to 1-1 and Emmanuel improved to 2-3 for the year. The Highlanders will return to action this Tuesday, Sep. 15, when they travel to Cabrini College for their first CSAC match of the season.
